You do not need a lot of time, or any special skills. You just need to want your neighbourhood to be a little better than it was yesterday.
Give what time you have.
Some volunteers give an hour a month; some give an evening a week. Both matter. Here is where we always need hands.
- Meetup buddies — help set up, welcome newcomers, put chairs away.
- Phone tree responders — pick up small mutual-aid requests when you can.
- Skills sharers — teach a session in something you already know.
- Kitchen helpers — cook, plate up, wash up at pantry days.
- Comms & design — help write, edit, take photos, design flyers.
- Coordinators — hold the calendar for a town or a programme.
What we ask from volunteers
Read and follow our code of conduct. For roles that involve children or vulnerable adults, we ask for a DBS check — we can help arrange it.
We do not ask for money, we do not ask about your politics, and we do not share your details with anyone else.
What starting one looks like
Two or three people who live near each other, a WhatsApp group, a monthly meetup in a cafe or community hall. That is it, really.
We will help you find a venue, tell people it is happening, and connect you to the wider network. You keep control.
No group in your town yet? Start one.
Every group in the network was started by one person who thought their neighbourhood needed one. There is nothing special about them — you can do this too.
- You do not need to be an expert in anything.
- You do not need money to begin.
- You do not need to run it alone — we will pair you with a coordinator from a nearby town.
Chip in, in kind or in cash.
We run on very little. A small donation goes further than you would think.
- Room hire — around £30 buys a hall for an afternoon.
- Tea and biscuits — a full meetup for £15.
- Repair cafe stock — £50 keeps a repair evening supplied for months.
- Pantry re-stock — £75 fills the shelves after a busy weekend.

In-kind help
Room to meet in, tools, tea and coffee, sandwich bags for the pantry, bike parts for the repair cafe. If you have it and are not using it, we probably have a home for it.

Most of our members heard about the network from a friend, a neighbour or a co-worker. If everyone tells one person, we double.
